The new retirement age for the workers is 65 years from previous legal provision of 60 years.
The “Oyo State Tertiary Institutions Staff Retirement Age Bill 2016’’ also provides for five years imprisonment or fine of N500, 000 or both for anyone found guilty of age falsification.
The passage of the bill by a unanimous vote of lawmakers present at plenary followed a report presented by the House’s Committee on Education and its counterpart on Establishment and Training.
The bill was initiated by the Speaker, Mr Michael Adeyemo, and was co-sponsored by Chairman of Education Committee, Mr Afeez Adeleke and Mr Oyeleke Oyatokun (APC-Afijio).
Supporting the passage of the bill, Adeleke said that it would enhance productivity and raise the standard of education in the state.
The speaker, however, directed the Clerk of the House to forward a clean copy of the approved bill to the state governor for his assent.
Meanwhile, the lawmakers have called on the executive arm of government in the state and relevant security agencies to come out with a master plan to stem neighbourhood cultism in Ibadan metropolis.
The lawmakers made the call following a motion by Mr Olusegun Olaleye (APC-Ibadan North I) brought under Matters of Urgent Public Importance.
Olaleye had said that the menace of cultism in the metropolis and campuses of tertiary institutions had resulted in deaths of not only cult members but innocent citizens.
“The clash of different cult groups often resulted in loss of lives of innocent people; five people have died in two weeks around Agbowo area as a result of these clashes,’’ he said.
